BooTea
I’m a lover of all things tea so couldn’t resist jumping on the band wagon! The Boo Tea craze has taken over Twitter and Instagram with before and afters’ that seem completely unrealistic. This just made me want to try it more!
What is it?
The ‘Teatox’ consist of a day time tea that you drink every morning. This tea bag contains Chinese Oolong tea, Maté leaves, Ginger root, Fennel seeds, Lemongrass, Dandelion leaf, Ginseng root, Gotu Kola leaves, Nettle leaves. It tastes like most herbal or green teas but I brewed it for double the suggested time to get a stronger taste.
Secondly comes a bedtime cleanse consisting of Senna leaves, Peppermint leaves, Fenugreek seeds, Liquorice root, Burdock root, Hawthorn leaves, Valerian root, Psyllium seeds. This is to be taken every other evening and products a laxative effect adding digestion. This one is more similar to a mint tea in taste. Aiding digestion should lead to weight loss, naturally!, and having an active digestive system means your body is more able to utilise nutrients from foods you eat giving you more energy and better health.
Boo Tea provides a suggested eating plan to accompany the teatox. This basically includes standard healthy eating with the exclusion of red meat and alcohol.
Benefits
Stated benefits include: increased metabolism, suppresses appetite, cleanse of your body whilst significantly aiding weight loss increased energy and more motivation to exercise and removal of unwanted ‘toxins’ & built up waste matter from the body via the lungs, kidneys, bowels and skin.
I did the teatox for 28 days with a start weight of 128.3lbs/ 9.1stone. I have been eating fairly healthily and running regularly along with a few yoga/floor sessions. I removed all red meat from my diet and replaced it with quorn, poultry or white fish but ate vegetarian as often as possible. One part of the recommended plan I couldn’t manage was alcohol! I think it’s fair to say I drink regularly to heavily depending on my calendar! I have no doubt results would be improved if you could cut out/ cut down on alcohol intake for the duration.
Results
After the 28days I had lost a total of 3.5lb brining me down to 8.9 stone 124.7lb. Sadly I didn’t take any before or after pictures to share with you. I generally left much less bloated than before which made me feel smaller and more confident! I felt like I had much more energy and adding the tea to my routine wasn’t difficult. The 28 day set costs around £35 but i strongly advise you to buy it from Holland & Barrett as they often have deals such as buy one get one half price, so go in with a friend! Despite the initial cost this works out as 95p a teabag so I feel it’s worth it.
Results for everyone will be different depending on how strictly you keep to it and any other dietary/lifestyle changes you undertake. I fell that eventually your body would adapt so weight loss would slow down but this doesn’t mean that herbal teas shouldn’t contribute your lifestyle. Cutting your red meat intake down to 1-2 times a week is recommended as red meat is high in saturated fat and takes a long time to digest (similar to a plastic bag in landfill!!). Red meat contains essential minerals and nutrients but Iron can also be obtained through green leafy veg such as spinach so dont worry!
