Coming back from a trip into the real world can be hard. It could have been a week or a month; the blues will still get you. Hanging up the bikini and commuting to work is killer. Here are some small tips to help blitz your body and soul and get the smile back on your face.
Ditch the Drink
When it comes to drinking on holiday us Brits have an awful rep. In a recent study half of us admitted to drinking every single day of our holidays, probably in excess. A third of us hit the drink before we even get on the plane!
Alcohol is empty calories leading to unwanted weight gain, disrupted sleep and bad decisions. Ditching it once you get home will help to get your body back on track. Hair of the dog can only go on for so long before its time to take the hit.
Start eating regular meals
On holiday it’s hard to stick to a routine. Meals end up all over the place and are often skipped all together. Skipping meals deprives our bodies of a stable store of energy which can lead to our metabolism slowing down and going into storage mode.
Regular meals eliminate the peaks and troughs of energy improving our mood and well being. Having 3 regular meals and 2 snacks is preferable to one large meal later in the day. Remember to base meals on protein, high quality carbohydrate and loads of fruit and veg.
Stop eating take away
Part of being on holiday is getting to relax. Take away food is easy and makes up most of our meals while we are away.
Swapping to homemade foods is likely to cut the amount of sugar and salt you are consuming. It’s also easier to control fat and calorie intakes if you make it yourself. Planning meals prevents us from reaching for pre made options so get organised!
Drink More Water
In many foreign countries its common practices to drink bottled water rather than tap. This means we generally drink less as its more of an effort. Couple this with hot days and too much alcohol and you’ve got yourself a very dehydrated body.
Dehydration leads to headaches, feeling lethargic, dry skin and irritability. Aim for 2 litres a day!
Reflect
What did you learn? Take your holiday experiences and apply them to your daily life. Taking yourself out of your comfort zone and into new places helps you grow as a person. Did you try new things? Did you create great memories? Do you see things differently now and have new aspirations?
Positive reflection helps you to accept that it’s not all over and that you can still think back and get the same buzz as you did.
Stay in Touch
Often on holiday you meet amazing new people, I know I did! Keep in touch with them to share memories, pictures and jokes. After all life is made of nights you can’t remember with people you’ll never forget.
Share
Share your experience with the people at home, even if it does make them a tad jealous! Relaying your favourite bits helps to perk you back up and lift your mood on bad days.
Prepare a come back
Planning a return trip gives you something to look forward to. You can start planning and saving as soon as you get back and the days till your back on the beach get closer and closer.
Smile when you look back and beam when you look forward. Australia 2015 watch this space!
