Ever considered the swap?

Weight loss: The monounsaturated fats in Soy milk prevent your intestine from absorbing fat from what you eat. Cow’s milk contains 12g of sugar per portion where Soy has 5g less at 7g per portion. A glass of skimmed milk is equivalent o So at about 80 calories a glass.

Protein and Fibre: Soy milk contains more fibre than cows milk helping you to keep full. The protein in Soy is solely from vegetables helping Vegetarians and Vegans to reach their protein requirements.

Lactose free: Lactose is the milk present in Cows milk which causes problems such as bloating and discomfort in 75% of the world’s population. Soy is naturally lactose free.

Improved lipid profile: Soy milk is cholesterol free unlike cow’s milk which contains animal fats which are saturated. Soy reduces the concentration of bad LDL cholesterol in the blood and promoted the production of good HDL cholesterol. This protects us from heart disease and CVD related conditions.

Blood vessel protection: Soy milk contains omega 3 and 6 which benefits us in a number of ways. The compounds bind together to produce a defensive lining which coats the inside of our blood vessels. This prevents damage from free radical attach, lesions and haemorrhage. Our vessels become more resistant to pressure and cholesterol deposits are less likely.

Bone health: Phytoestrogen is a plant hormone which is present in Soy Milk. Phytoestrogen aids the absorption of calcium by the body. This reduces the risk of losing bone mass which can lead to such problems as Osteoporosis as we age. Some Soy milks are fortified with extra calcium and Vitamin D to help further.

Reduced risk of Cancer: Phytoestrogen consumption has been linked to reduced risk of prostate hypertrophy or prostate cancer in men. This is because it inhibits the production of testosterone, a risk factor of prostate cancer.

Reduces menopausal symptoms: Phytoestrogen can replace the estrogen lost during menopause. This reduces side effects such as mood swings, depression and insomnia. It’s also reduces the risk of more serious conditions developing such as Cancers, diabetes and heart conditions.

Soy Milk comes in different flavours such as coconut and chocolate, so no excuse not to give it a try.
